Krakau becomes a center for climate issues! A dense three-day program in which regional and international experts discuss and conduct experiments on climate change.

On the basis of Klaus Schafler's climate project, REGIONALE12 in collaboration with the "Renewable Energy" Department of the Province of Styria and the Leader Project "Healthy Krakautal Valley" have organized a climate theme weekend. A specialist conference where business people, spatial designers, and energy experts meet with art, philosophy, and science. Beside discussions and keynote presentations (e.g. by Renate Christ, Nobel Peace Prize winner 2007), potential future models from the perspectives of politics, economy, and civil society will be debated on July 12 and 13.

The symposium by Cooling Station makes a fulminant start on Friday evening with "COOKING CATASTROPHES" by Eva Meyer-Keller and Sybille Müller. Catastrophes are reconstructed in their performance and evidence the profound interest many artists currently have in dealing with climate issues. On Saturday morning, curators, artists, and scientists will discuss this topic and how the symbiosis of art and science can yield sociopolitical benefits.

In the KlimaHof (Climate Farm), a sixteenth-century farmhouse commonly known as Sauschneider, scientists and everyday experts stand at the kitchen table at the end of the day to answer questions, while experiments can be conducted in an open workshop. Or if you want to have it more easily consumable, you can watch the climate in the home cinema.

Where: Krakauebene Multi-Purpose Hall, KlimaHof vulgo Sauschneider, "White Noise" Festival Center
Theme Weekend: July 12 - 15, 2012

In cooperation with
Gesundes Krakautal ("Healthy Krakautal Valley", Leader 2007-2013) / Klimaschutzkoordination der Fachabteilung 17A Energiewirtschaft und allgemeine technische Angelegenheiten, Land Steiermark / the municipalities of Krakauhintermühlen, Krakauschatten, and Krakaudorf.

Specialist Conference of the Province of Styria, July 12 - 13, 2012
A specialist conference of the Province of Styria on the theme of climate change and environmental policy will take place on both days. From the perspectives of politics, economy and ecology, mobility and infrastructure, civil society and participation, well-known speakers - such as 2007 Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Renate Christ or Prof. Dr. Felix Ekardt (University of Rostock) - will discuss issues around environmental policy-making and possible strategies for the future.

"Cooling Station" Symposium
On the basis of the exhibition "Cooling Station. Until Saturday afternoon, scientists, artists, and theoreticians will discuss the phenomenon of climate change and its influenceability.

7:00 pm: Begin of the symposium "Klima, natürlich?" (Climate, naturally?) - multi-purpose hall

Afterwards: Performance COOKING CATASTROPHES - multi-purpose hall
Cooking Catastrophes is a performance, a cooking show, and a reflection on the future. Seasoned with expert knowledge and captured by a live camera that evokes our visual memories of a news reportage, Cooking Catastrophes plays with the strong contradictions between pleasure and fear.

In the parlor of a sixteenth-century farmhouse, scientists, professionals from diverse backgrounds, and everyday experts tell about their knowledge and activities. In an open workshop, visitors can stitch weather slogans and learn how one can build a Stirling motor or a weather cock. Furthermore, there is the opportunity to watch films om the theme in the home cinema or hear the corresponding music in the listening room.
